Employers & Manufacturers Association, Khyber Pass
The new EMA (Employers & Manufacturers Association) Head Office and Business Hub was formally opened by the Honourable John Key on Thursday 5th May 2016. Attended by a broad cross section of business leaders, local and national politicians, the project was very well received.
The re-use of the 1920’s warehouse structure for the Business Hub Conference and Seminar rooms in particular, imparts some specific character and historical context.
ATA is pleased to be the Architects creating an exciting business address in the Ellerslie Junction project launched last Saturday 13.2.16. Busby & Crowther, New Lynn
Busby & Crowther is a 13 house development in New Lynn, part of Housing New Zealand’s major thrust to bring about a new era of public housing.
Originally the site contained 4 old state houses built in the 1950’s. The housing under construction will now accommodate a range of 2 bed, 3 bed and 4 bedroom units.
Planned and approved via the HPO office and with Homestar 6 certification, these homes will be warm, spacious and highly liveable.
Classic Builders won the contract to construct under a design and build process and have progressed the project quickly with final fully landscaped completion set for February 2016.
Volvo Showroom, Greenlane
A recently completed project. (March 2015)
One of the major challenges of the project was transforming the existing concrete masonry and fibre cement sheet façade into a translucent light-box to meet the new Volvo international corporate image requirements. Due to the existing building structures proximity to the boundaries, we had a limited space of 60mm outside the existing building envelope to work with. We built a mock-up of the glass façade in the office with a 60mm cavity backlit with LED lighting strips. Over the next few weeks we trialled a multitude of different types and colours of glass before deciding on the final specification and detailing. The end result exceeded our expectations and has completely transformed the building.
Saltus Apartments, Stonefields
ATA are proud to lead a exciting new chapter in the creation of the Stonefields Community in Aucklands newest suburb. Following the early success of the first houses we undertook for Fletcher Residential they and Todd Properties commissioned us to design the first apartment building. The new 5 storey building containing 44 apartments forms a fitting urban gateway to Stonefields. Each apartment has been thoughtfully designed to meet the specific needs of the owner/occupier boomers and with half sold to date has confirmed this assumption. There are a variety of 2 and 3 bed configurations. Significant features include full apartment width terraces, 2.7m ceiling heights and storage. Constructed concrete in steel, glass, metal for low maintenance. They feature Poggenpohl kitchens, tapware and Hans Grohe appliances. Two cars per apartment plus on site visitors plus gymnasium. The first such significant apartment building to be constructed in Auckland to the new Building Codes Thermal and Acoustic requirements which should significantly reduce unwanted external noise and thermal comfort and efficency. All apartments sold some 2 months out from its completion.
ANZ Cavendish Drive, Manukau City
The first stage of a comprehensive site redevelopment transforms the former head office of AB Machinery into the latest ANZ Bank. The new building retained the original slab and steel structure with an all new facade featuring Eterpan cladding on timber framing and extensive shop front glazing. Other buildings are currently undergoing a dramatic transformation to accommodate major retail brands including
"Adding to the plot"
The challenge was to add a new upper floor addition to accommodate the head once to the existing South Pacific Pictures Henderson Studios, while keeping the studios in production. The initial foundation upgrades were undertaken on weekends in preparation for the main steel superstructure to be erected in a narrow 5 week period. This new office floor effectively straddles the office and pre production spaces below. The office fitout incorporates a variety of passive measures for all rather than airconditioned. Internal rooms are articulated containers within the main open office space to allow rising hot air to vent via high level west clerestory windows as well as sections of translucent ceilings to distribute light.
Ronald McDonald House
After nearly 18 months of investigating many existing buildings around Grafton the RMD board purchased a 1980s development office building tucked away in a Domain side valley fronting Grafton Road. This 3 storey building has undergone the first stage of an internal conversion into 18 apartments specifically designed to cater to the needs of parents staying in Auckland while their children receive specialist treatment at the nearby Starship Hospital.
Stage 1 comprises the conversion of 3 floors including the carpark in the southern half of the office floors.
The shared kitchen and lounge amenities were accommodated in the former carpark. Part of a higher level rear carpark has been excavated to form a north facing outdoor play courtyard.
A steel bridge allows building users secure access directly into the second floor from Grafton Road. Ronald McDonald House relies on the generous support of corporate sponsors such as Fisher & Paykel and would welcome any new construction trade sponsors for the upcoming stages.
